Multiple Grammy and Blues Award winner, Joe Louis Walker and his band, will headline the show with “Lil Elmo and the Mambo Kings” and Great Falls own, “49th St Blues Project” in support.
Joe Louis Walker’s most recent release, “Between a Rock and The Blues” was selected as the 2010 Best Blues Album Award at the Blues Awards ceremony in Memphis. The album features appearances by Duke Robillard, and former “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” music director Kevin Eubanks.
Blues Revue magazine called Walker, “one of contemporary blues most dynamic and innovative musicians, releasing consistently exciting music.” BLURT magazine summed it up by declaring Walker a phenomenal guitarist, a singer with a warm, soulful voice, a solid songwriter, and a dynamic showman”. Walker will play in Great Falls with his five-piece band of seasoned and notable players.
Blues & Brews XV, will be the last of a long and very successful series of fundraisers for the Rivers Edge Trail “Fun and Games” committee. “We’re not done putting on terrific musical shows, fun community events, and raising money for the Trail”, said Jack King, Member of the Committee, “we’re just needing to retire this model and come back with something new and fresh..bigger and better as it were”. The committee is working hard to make this year’s event the very best of them all.
“The music will be great, with three bands, but our headliner will begin much earlier than in past years”, said King, who works to produce the shows. “It will be a high energy evening with terrific music and performances, but we’ll also be finished by 11pm this year.”
In its long and notable ride as one of Great Falls premier events, Blues and Brews has raised over $350,000 for the Trail, much of the cash used as matching funds for large, Federal and State Grants that continue to add to the ever-growing Trail.
Doug Wicks, President of Recreational Trails, Inc and developer of the Trail says, “ Funds from Blues & Brews over the years have been invaluable in the growth and enhancement of the Trail. The funds have been used on amenities like the information kiosks, shelters, benches and most importantly, as matching funds for State, Federal and Corporate Grants that provide the large chunks of the Trail.”
“The proceeds from this years event will help fund a paving extension between Upper River Road and the new trailhead parking area on 13th Ave So and the completion of the trailside Memorial Gazebo overlooking the flag and the city. If we have a very successful event, we may also be able to buy a vandal proof public telescope.”, Wicks said.
Tickets for Blues & Brews “Last Call” will be $25 in advance at the Great Falls Civic Center Events Office and $30 Day of the Show and at the Door.
Food will be available as well as a full array of adult beverages and featuring as usual, a terrific selection of local and regional Micro-Brews.
